Editor Bio

Crow Spell Editing & Writing is owned and operated by Monique Riel. Monique holds a Master of Arts in Religious Studies (University of Calgary) and a First Class Honours Bachelor of Arts in Ancient and Medieval History with a minor in Museum and Heritage Studies (University of Calgary). She is a member of Editors Canada and has received editing certification from Mount Royal University (December 2025).

Monique is mixed European and Red River Métis, descending from the Riel, Poitras, Fisher, Grant, Gingras, Trottier, McGillis, and Laframboise families. A practitioner of living in relation across (colonial) anthropogenic boundaries, she lives in humble gratitude and respect on K’ómoks, Qualicum, and Snaw’naw’as territories.

Aside from misty and moody forests, Monique's happy place is in the enchanting headspace of editing all manner of magical, mystical, and meandering manuscripts.
